Instrument Departures:
In general, use the ORD departure fixes for direction of flight. However the actual ORD departure will not be issued as a clearance on the ground at KUGN.
When departing to the Southwest, South or Southeast use the RNAV Fixes on the ORD departure (ACITO,BACEN,CMSKY,DENNT,EARND) and their subsequent RNAV fixes which are listed below. All aircraft being vectored over these fixes are usually told to maintain 250 KIAS until advised by ATC.
When departing the South-Southwest utilize ACITO or MZV. MZV works fine for departures that are more to the West-Southwest, and you will not need to use ACITO and its associated fixes, and there are usually no speed restrictions associated with departing over MZV. South and Southeast will require using CMSKY,DENNT or EARND respetively.
When departing to the East use DUFEE-ELX. Try to avoid using GIJ as you will be kept low to cross under all ORD departures. If your route is taking you to the DC area you will most likely get vectored over MOBLE.
When departing to the West, depending on direction of the route and ATC demands, one can expect PLL,IOW or SIMMN.
Departing to the North or Northwest utilize BAE, if going Northeast use PETTY.
The rest of the ORD departure fixes used are:
ACITO,ADELL,ARLYN
BACEN,BLOKR,BEKKI
CMSKY,CARYN,CYBIL
DENNT,CARCY,DREGS,DONVE,DUMGE
EARND,ELANR,EMMLY,ERECO,ETAME,EMGE
Instrument Arrivals:
From the South-Southwest utilize JOT VEENA, expect to cross VENNA at 10,000 followed by a 050 heading/vectors to KUGN.
From the West utilize JVL V216 VEENA with the same crossing and heading at VENNA as mentioned above.
From the Southeast utilize MACES BVT BRAVE PETTY. This works well most of the time, depending on ORD traffic configuration. If Center starts to descent you out too far, relay your intentions to remain higher longer and they will give you a route that will suit their traffic needs and allow you to cruise at a higher altitude longer.
Northeast-East, utilize PMM ZEMEL PETTY, expect to cross ZEMEL at or below 10,000.
North, expect BJB followed by vectors to UGN.
When arriving at UGN after tower is closed, be aware taht RWY 23 is right traffic when in use. This is usually mentioned in the ASOS.
